We have all been faced with stressful times at some point in our lives. I’m sure that some of us have been faced with quite a bit of stress over the course of our lives. It happens and while we’d like to all live stress free lives, it is sometimes inevitable and hard to avoid. There are definitely ways that you can relieve stress and live a less stressful and more prosperous lifestyle.
What is Stress?
According to the Cleveland Clinic: Stress is the body’s reaction to any change that requires an adjustment or response. The body reacts to these changes with physical, mental, and emotional responses. Stress is a normal part of life. You can experience stress from your environment, your body, and your thoughts.
(Above dock is pretty old. The house flipper in me is always thinking of ways I could make the decks and docks around the lake look nicer. I’d love to visit a Decks & Docks Lumber Company. I admit that remodeling things is a pretty great stress reliever for me!)
Now, let’s take a moment to discuss some ways that we can relieve stress. One way that I like to relieve stress is to go somewhere that makes me happy and just sit back and relax. I like to take in my surroundings. I might sit on a dock near the lake and just listening to the birds, the water and the crickets. It is super relaxing and therapeutic to me. Maybe that’s not relaxing and de-stressing for you though? You can always try one of the suggestions below.
10 Great Ways to Relieve Stress
- Exercise- Exercising and staying active can really help to clear your mind and body. It is a great stress reliever and can make your whole body feel better.
- Meditation- Meditating can be another great way to reduce stress. Taking your mind off of whatever you are stressing about and focusing on something else can really help reduce your stress and clear your mind.
- Dance- Dancing goes hand in hand with exercising, however we felt it was worth mentioning in another spot as this is a great way to get loose, relax and let go. Dancing allows your body to be free and you often end up forgetting about what was bothering you.
- Writing- I love to write, hence the reason I started a blog. Not everyone loves to write, however, even simply writing down what is bothering you, or ways you can change what is bothering you can be a stress reliever. Finding ways to eliminate stressors and taking action can bring great satisfaction.
- Supplements- Vitamin supplements can often help mood. I have found Solgar Stress Complex to be a great option for me. I use it anytime I’m feeling stress and anxiety, and have had great luck with it.
- Essential Oils- Essentials oils have been known to relieve tension and stress. We like to add some lavender to a diffuser in our living room so the whole family can benefit.
- Cut Back Caffeine- Sometimes we are taking in a lot more caffeine than we even realize. Caffeine can cause us to be jittery and react to things differently. If you notice that you are stressed and anxious or on edge a lot, you may consider cutting back on the amount of caffeine you are taking in.
- Talk- We often think we can handle things on our own, however just getting something off of your chest can often be a big stress reliever. If something is bothering you, consider talking to someone about it.
- Music- Music can be soothing and it can have a relaxing effect on the body. Sometimes it just takes being able to sit back, relax and think about nothing but the song you are listing to, in order to reduce stress.
- Say No-If you are taking on too much and feeling overwhelmed, you might need to say no to some obligations and give yourself more time to spend on other things that way you aren’t feeling stressed and overwhelmed.
