How was your New Years?
We rang in the new year with my sister and her family. The kids were super excited because rather than drive out on the roads when we knew there were going to be a lot of drunk drivers out, we planned ahead and had a slumber party!
My 2 nephews came dressed in the cute and comfy pjs and we had lots of yummy snacks and fun!
The adults had a few drinks (minus me, I’m nursing.) I must say it was a fun night, and I can’t wait to do it again! We even got one of the kids games out, Headbanz and had some adult fun with it!
Can you imagine 4 adults sitting around a table playing a kids game?
Ok, I won’t make you imagine…here is a funny pic of my husband playing the game. Mind you, he looks a little tipsy because he doesn’t normally drink and by this time he had well, a few drinks. ha ha!
The next couple of days after New Years were spent trying to catch up on sleep, and then the kids got sick! This sickness that they have is awful, and they have spent so much time in the bathroom and sleeping. I hope that it is out of our house as fast as it came! So far my 7, 5 and 2 year old are the only ones that have gotten this illness, and I’m really hoping that it stays that way. Everyone seems to be doing better except our 2 year old, although he was much better today than he has been the last couple of days.
I decided to make soup for supper today.
With everyone getting sick, and the weather turning quite cold again it was nice to have something to warm our tummies.
I always make different variations of my Potato, Broccoli, Ham and Cheese Soup, but tonight this is the recipe I decided to use….
(Sorry, I didn’t exactly count everything and measure. I’m terrible about that and tend to just throw things together.)
I typically make the soup using flour, cream of mushroom soup, milk and water.
Tonight we decided to try something different.
I purchased Bear Creek Potato soup mix. (All you have to do is add water and cook-simple, right?)
It was very simple.
However, I couldn’t just leave it at that. I had to add to it, so I cut up about 4 or 5 potatos and added those as well as a bag of frozen broccoli and some diced ham. I also added a few cans of cream of mushroom soup and a jar of cheese. I cooked this all for a few hours in the crockpot on high and by suppertime it was done. My family ate 2nds and 3rds and loved it!

My family played this game last New Years too but I was sick (and pregnant!) so my husband and I stayed home, miserable. I have that soup mix but never got around to making it. I’ll have to try adding some ingredients like you did. ๐

Oh yes, add to it, they are so much better that way! ๐
