I have been reading article after article about children and schooling. Many times the articles I came across all said similar things…children are in primary school for 12 years, they are only in college for approximately 4 years, although it could be longer. If they do not get a good education as a young child, they are not going to do well in college. Do you feel like your child’s school is living up to it’s standards? Are your children getting all you want for them out of their school?
I am certainly not saying that public school is bad, and for some, it’s the only option.
If you are considering sending your children to a private school, you might enjoy our tips for how to afford private school.
1.) If you have a college fund, use it for private school. Invest in your children now. Primary school is very important and without that education, they may not make it to college.
2.) If one parent stays home they may want to consider volunteering at the school for a break in tuition. If that is not possibly because of younger children or something, try finding a job that can be done from home. (I could probably write a whole post about jobs from home.-If anyone is interested, let me know and I’ll do that!)
3.) Start a blog! Sounds silly, right? What do you have to write about? Your life! People really do want to read it, believe me. Once you get established you can start reviewing products (for free) and even do paid jobs! That’s right, we make money blogging!
4.) Ask the school for a break in tuition fees. Believe it or not, a lot of schools will be accommodating, especially if you have several children attending the school.
5.) See if your school offers any sort of financial assistance.
6.) Sell something. Maybe you have an old car sitting around (I say this because we do), a boat or RV that rarely get used, or maybe even some jewelry or baseball cards? It all adds up and can be money in your pocket–money for your child’s future.
7.) Cut back. Try not to eat out as much. Maybe get rid of the home phone if you already have cell phones you are paying for. Cut back to basic cable if you are paying for extra movie channels (netflix is much cheaper!) Shop around for cheaper internet providers. You might even consider getting rid of the gym membership and skipping that Starbucks stop in the morning.
8.) Tax write-offs. Private school is not a tax write off, however if you donate supplies, cash or anything else throughout the year, keep track of it and use it as a write-off on your taxes at the end of the year.
9.) Have a fundraiser once or twice a year. Many family and friends will be willing to help out, especially if they are getting a product or something in return.
10.) Set up an affordable payment plan. However, if you do have the money to pay all at once (think tax time) then ask if you get a discount for paying in advance.
