As most of you already know we welcomed our 5th son into our family a week and a half ago.
This is not the only BIG event that has taken place at our house.
We had planned on doing compete demolition to our kitchen months ago, however the construction crew that was going to gut the kitchen couldn’t make it in time. So, instead of waiting for the construction crew to have some free time to come gut the kitchen my husband decided to invite my brother in law and a couple of his friends over to tear things up! And boy do I mean tear things up!
(This photo is when the kitchen was really bad and we couldn’t be here because of the dust and stuff. Crazy mess, right!?)
They started demolition when our sweet little baby was only 6 days old.
I was forced to leave the house with all 5 boys by myself at this point because I didn’t want to boys to be here breathing in any dust or anything. We visited my Mom and went to the park and out for ice cream the first day. Did I mention my baby was only 6 days old at this time?
The next day I decided to take it a little more easy. We visited my sister and her 2 boys. I brought food and my sister cooked and took care of everything all day long. It was great! Thanks sis!
They are no longer doing demolition, and my kitchen is starting to be put back together. By starting I do not by any means mean that things are back together. It’s still a crazy mess and my boys are needing extra scrubbing every day! The boys are loving helping Daddy out though! I’ll have to get a pic of my 2 year old in his hard hat with his little plastic hammer hitting the floor. He does this quite often…so cute!
So, what did we do you ask?
We (by we I mean the guys) tore out a wall and a chimney, cut out some of a block wall to widen a doorway. Raised floors, tore out all cabinets and anything else attached to the walls until the walls were completely exposed. They also tore out the ceiling (took the attic above out and all.) We are completely opening the ceiling up and making it a cathedral ceiling. I can’t wait to see what it is all going to look like, but right now it is just a huge mess that I want to hide from!
I have to do dishes in my bathroom, laundry at my inlaws, coffee in the dining room, cook in the crock pot or on the grill, unless I decide to just say heck with it and order out, which I have done a couple of times. Our microwave decided to take a crap on us a couple of days ago. The kids were heating lunch up in the microwave in the dining room every day and it was really nice. Darn microwave! I have a new one in the garage, however it is an over the stove one and it is still boxed and I don’t feel like going out there, rummaging through all of the boxes, and then trying to bring it in and hook things up.
Due to the kitchen construction the rest of the house is a huge mess! I can’t wait to have my new kitchen, but boy did we pick a bad time to do things.
Hubby laid the sub floor in the kitchen and is working on running new wiring today. Thank goodness he knows how to do all of this! Can you imagine what this would all have cost us if he didn’t!?
Yikes, I don’t even want to think about it!
The really bad news is that hubby goes back to work tomorrow and I’m really not sure when my kitchen is going to be complete. He is hoping to be ready for drywall by the weekend…fingers crossed!
By the end of the month he will be back to traveling and I really can’t imagine school starting and hubby traveling and me not having a kitchen. So, if you all could keep your fingers crossed for me that this comes together quickly that would be great!!!!
