We have been spending a lot more time at home during the pandemic, and it has been a challenge trying to keep everyone entertained while we aren’t able to get out of the house much. We thought we would get creative and share some fun activities that can be enjoyed by the entire family while at home.
At-Home Family Night Activities:
.) At-Home Movie Night– This is a simple and fun activity that everyone will enjoy, while making lasting memories spending time together. You can have a different family member pick their favorite move every time you have a family movie night. This will allow everyone to have a turn choosing something to watch in the coming weeks. You might even consider a movie marathon over the weekend and allow each family member to choose one leg of the marathon- for hours of fun! Don’t forget the popcorn and treats so you can have a real-time movie experience!
.) Homemade Pizza—Many families have a tradition of ordering pizza once a week (or when no one feels like cooking). Do things a little different while you’re all at home together and learn to make pizza at home. Choose one type that everyone enjoys, or let everyone make a personal-sized pizza and add whatever toppings they’d like. Learning to make pizza at home is also an excellent opportunity to teach your kids a new skill.
.) Camping In The Yard—Just because you can’t go out on vacation doesn’t mean you can’t have a family outing in nature. Get the whole family involved in setting up the tents and sleeping bags in your yard. Have a campfire, sing songs, tell stories, and roast marshmallows. Before bed, take some time to admire the stars. The best part is that everyone can enjoy the company of each other, make memories and have some fun! It’s a great break from being indoors.
.) Dance Party—Make a playlist of your family members’ favorite songs. Gather together in one room and dance to your new playlist. It’ll be a great way to laugh together and let go of any stress you may be feeling at the moment. It’s also a great way to get moving and get some exercise! If you’ve been reading my posts long, you know that I’ve always said that dance is a great stress reliever! As a matter of fact, music and dancing is how I’ve gotten through many tough days while homeschooling and being indoors during long winters.
.) Art Night—Bring out the crayons, pencils, watercolors, and paper. Come up with a theme, such as summertime, animal friends, or family portraits. It’ll be fun to see what everyone comes up with while allowing them to get creative. During an uncertain time, it can be challenging to know how to keep your entire family entertained. However, it’s the perfect opportunity to make memories and do things that you don’t always have time to do together. Cherish these fleeting moments with your loved ones. You might even get online to look for videos and samples of things that you can re-create during art night.
.) Outdoor Games– Playing outdoor games can be a lot of fun and the competition can bring on many laughs! Start by dividing family members into teams and then challenge everyone to do their best and compete. You may find yourselves having tie breakers and play-offs when it’s all over with!
.) Indoor Games– Having a family game night can be great fun! Make it more fun by providing snacks and drinks, as well as prizes for winners! Family members can split up into teams and challenge each other!
.) Bake-Off– Spend some time together making memories in the kitchen while baking yummy treats. You might even decorate houses and cookies like we do during the holidays. You don’t need a holiday to make sweet art!
.) Blanket Fort– Get prepared for laughs while turning the family room into a fun blanket fort! Get creative and use your furniture, pillows and blankets!
.) Scavenger Hunt– Create a fun scavenger hunt for family members to go on. This is a great activity to pass time, as well as make fun memories and allow everyone a chance to explore the property!
.) Play Card Games– You can play some of the regular card games, or you can even make up your own! Maybe even throw in a few magic tricks with cards!
