Can you believe that summer is over already and the kids are going back to school? Our public school system went back to school on Tuesday, so we decided to start our homeschool lessons on Monday. I’m not going to lie, when the end of the year comes I’m super ready for the school year to be over and summer to arrive. With that being said, I’m also super excited for each new school year to start. This year I felt more prepared than ever to get started.
One thing that I did this year to make myself more prepared is that in addition to ordering our curriculum, I also made sure that we had other tools to help with our lessons. Oriental Trading Company was such a big help this year! I really did not realize that they had THAT many school supply items on their site!
This was before our bulletin board calendar was all set up. We decided that since August is almost over, we were just going to put the September calendar on the wall. My boys were really excited about this because we didn’t have a calendar last year! This is making it easy to keep track of Gym, Art, Music and Field Trips! No longer do I have children asking me (daily) what day we are doing things! Yay!!!
Our 9 year old was already putting his Place Value Activity Set to good use on the second day of school! It is so nice when you can give them things to touch and see that will help them better understand a concept. Oriental Trading has a really nice selection of Math Curriculum. I plan to purchase some of the other items soon!
By day 3 we were putting our Base Ten Counting Blocks to use! This is a great way to teach them without having to draw a bunch of boxes! Plus, my kids love to play with these! Even when not doing school, they sometimes ask if we can get these out to practice! (They say play, I say practice!)
These little alphabet dice are great for early learners! We have been playing a fun spelling game with them. I sit my 7 and 9 year old boys on the floor and we toss the blocks. We then take turns seeing how many words each one can spell with their blocks. Not only are they challenging themselves, but they are also having fun playing together and learning! (This was taught to me by a retired school teacher).
There really are so many fun products at Oriental Trading Company! We can’t wait to add more of them to our homeschool room!
