Everyone is super excited for school to end and summer to get started, however it never fails that a couple of weeks into summer break, someone is bored. Now, if your children are anything like mine, when they get bored they tend to get a little cranky and antsy. That is why I like to try to keep them busy and moving during summer months. It may be hot outdoors, but there is always something that we can do—indoors or out.
Ways to Beat Summer Boredom:
- Explore the Outdoors- Maybe even go on a scavenger hunt in the back yard or at the local park.
- Get moving- Invest in an inexpensive kids fitbit and encourage your kids to get their steps in. It’s fun watching them try to beat their steps from the previous days, and it’s a great way to keep them active!
- Pick fruit- You can go berry picking or maybe visit a local apple orchard. This is a great way to pass the time and stock your cupboards!
- Visit a museum or science center.
- Go roller skating or bowling.
- Play mini-golf.
- Visit the zoo.
- Visit the aquarium.
- Fly a kite.
- Play outdoors with sidewalk chalk and/or bubbles.
- Play outdoor games such as outdoor checkers, tick-tack-toe, bean bag toss, ladder ball, hopscotch, horeshoes…
- Read a book. I love sitting outdoors and reading.
- Take a walk.
- Go to the pool.
- Climb a tree.
- Play at the park.
- Visit the Library.
- Visit family and friends.
- Have a picnic.
- Go for ice cream.
- Go out on a boat.
- Go geocaching.
- Play outdoors in the water.
- Do crafts.
- Make Slime.
- Paint rocks and hide them around town. You can also search for rocks around town.
- Sell Lemonade.
- Offer to help neighbors with yard work and such.
- Have a puppet show.
- Bake cookies.
- Play with water balloons and water guns outdoors.
- Catch Bugs.
- Ride Bikes.
- Build a bird feeder.
- Wash a car.
- Go Fishing.
We hope you find these Ways to Beat Summer Boredom helpful.

Thanks for these great ideas. We still have over a month left of Summer vacation and my son and grandson are always saying they are bored.
