Many people have decided that carpet is the way to go, and carpet is making a comeback. It is soft under the feet, keeps the home warmer, and gives a cozy feel in the home. While the last couple of decades people have been leaning more towards hardwood floors and tiles, 2020 has seen a resurgence of carpet in homes.

It doesn’t matter of you have carpet throughout your house, or just a few rooms of carpet, you are going to want to stick around for these tips. You just never know when you might find yourself in need of a good carpet cleaning hack. Keeping your carpets clean and stain-free is very important. Of course, you can always call in a professional cleaning service, but it’s not that scary to tackle carpet dirt and stains on your own. You can save quite a bit of money with these do-it-yourself carpet cleaning hacks.

Carpet Cleaning Hacks You Should Try:

1.) Lint Roller– Dirt, crumbs, pet hair, spills of things like flour, rice, glitter, or any other tiny particles can often be pulled from the carpet with a lint roller.

2.) Squeegee– A damp squeegee will remove even stubborn pet hair from carpets, and it doesn’t cost a dime to use (other than the initial purchase of the squeegee).

3.) Blot Stains– Carefully and gently blot stains (do not rub) with your cleaning solution. This will keep them from spreading and soaking deeper into the carpet fibers.

4.) Make Your Cleaning Solutions– Deep clean carpets with cleaning solutions you can make at home yourself, such as white vinegar, dish soap, or Windex with Vinegar (if you have it on hand). These solutions can be used to safely and effectively clean your carpets. Consider eco-friendly solutions the next time you clean.

5.) Heat– Carefully heating a stain with a hair dryer will help loosen the stain and make removal easier for you.

6.) Shaving Cream– Shaving cream is a great cleaning solution for small spaces. It leaves the carpet fresh and clean.

7.) DIY Deodorizer– Keep carpets smelling clean by mixing Borax, baking soda, and a few drops of essential oils. Sprinkle the mixture onto carpets and then vacuum after letting it set for a few minutes.

Keeping carpets vacuumed and clean can really help improve the look and the life of your floors.

Carpet can be nice. I’m sitting on a hardwood floor right now, and hmmm, a plush carpet would be nicer. I learned the hard way, though, about white carpet – at least don’t run to get the phone while holding red jello powder! I tripped and the powder got into the carpet, and was impossible to get out, and the red coloring would not come out.

I love carpets, but with children and pets I had to take them up except for a throw rug here and there. I am thinking of carpeting the living room again now that the children are grown so these tips will be helpful.
