I am a little partial to this book, one because the author is from Ohio and also because of the values and lessons being taught in this book. It can sometimes be hard to find good children’s books that aren’t just rhyming and spouting silly phrases. Don’t get me wrong, we like to have fun while reading, however I’m always looking for a fun way to teach my boys valuable lessons in life.
Tenuke the Eskimo is a book about an adventurous little boy who wants to be a great warrior like his father. Tenuke dreams of going on hunting trips with his father and the other men, however his father informs him that he is far too young to set out on such an adventure and he will have to wait until he is older.
Tenuke was sad that he could not go on the hunt with his father. Determined to go on the hunt Tenuke set out to prove to his father that he was indeed old enough. By the end of the book Tenuke has learned some very important lessons about patience and obedience.
The book had my children asking questions and very intently listening the whole time. After reading the book we had a little discussion about the story and what they had learned. I was impressed at all that my boys took away from the book.
Reading is very important to our family. It builds bonding between my children and me while allowing them to use their imaginations and relax their brain and mind. We especially love to read at night before bed. I want my children to have the foundations they need in life to be all that they can be, and through reading they are developing great little minds.
We highly recommend the book, Tenuke the Eskimo. This book would make a great gift!
