Our family loves taking field trips, especially when it’s to someplace as fun as COSI! Seriously, we’ve been there so many times we know our way through the 320,000 square foot science center! That’s no typo either—there really are 320,000 square feet of fun hands on learning—it’s great!

About COSI:

COSI (Center of Science and Industry) is located in Columbus, Ohio. This massive science center inspires the scientists, dreamers and innovators of tomorrow. COSI was opened in 1964 at Memorial Hall in downtown Columbus, however they later moved (in 1999) to a new 320,000 square foot building that was designed by internationally-renowned architect, Arata Isozaki. The building is one of the largest modern-built science centers in the United States!

Some of the unique additions to COSI include WOSU@COSI, which is the only working television station in a science center. Also, included at COSI is the Ohio State University (OSU) Labs in Life, which is a working laboratory created through a partnership with The Ohio State University and staffed by OSU researches. Battelle’s STEM Innovation Network at COSI is in partnership with one of the world’s leading research institutions; the Columbus Historical Society: and the STEM-based Metro High School.

We always enjoy ourselves every time we visit. One thing my boys really love is the Ocean where they can play in the water! We always manage to stay dry, however they certainly have a blast when in that area of the science center!

There aren’t any areas of the science center that we dislike. I do believe my children spent a little (just a wee bit) too much time shocking each other in an exhibit that teaches about electricity! Boys will be boys, right?

One of my favorite parts of COSI is Progress, where you will see generations of changes all in the blink of an eye. Walk down streets from years ago and experience what it was like in the past. (It’s pretty funny when you have to explain to your children what a pay phone is!)
