I have spent quite a bit of time in a writer’s funk. We have had so many life changes over the past year (many very recent) and it has just left me with a bit of brain fog and some feelings of overwhelm. We lost one of our beloved pets, and then my mother-in-law lost her battle to cancer, and we have had a couple other family members pass away unexpectedly. It really has me thinking about how short life is and how things can just happen without warning, and so I have started to do some planning myself. I’ve been trying to think of what is important for my children and their future. One thing I know is that I want to make sure we have a will and life insurance set up, even if it is cheap term life insurance, that way my family won’t be stuck with grief and added stress/bills.
While we never know what tomorrow has to offer, what we do know is that there is always today, and I’m trying to do things today that will make a better tomorrow—for my whole family. Thinking ahead is never a bad thing, and I do love to have things planned out, even if I’m not always super organized. Who needs life insurance? If you have someone who depends on you financially, you own a business, have debts, or want to leave something behind for friends and family, you can benefit from life insurance.
Over the last few months, I have really had a different outlook on things. I have come to realize that it’s ok to take breaks, take a nap, take a walk through the woods (or park), sit back and do nothing, binge watch a favorite tv show, color on the sidewalks with chalk with my boys, or act silly. It’s all okay. Even if you feel totally unproductive one day and need a mental health day—that’s actually healthy, and it’s okay.
I have also learned the importance of having a will. This is one of those things that I totally never wanted to talk about. I wanted to put it off forever because, let’s face it, we aren’t that old. We don’t expect to need a will, but I definitely feel that it is best to have it prepared now, so that we don’t have that worry in the future.
Is there anything that you would like to add? Maybe something you feel is important when planning your future, such as cheap term life insurance, preparing a will, taking mental health days? We would love to hear!
