When contacted to review an Exergen Temporal Scan Thermometer I was pretty excited!
We have seen these products in our doctor’s office and they have also recently been featured in a Grey’s Anatomy episode!
A Little About the Exergen Temporal Scan Thermometer…
The Exergen TemporalScanner is an infared thermometer, which reads a temperature in just two seconds. This thermometer is available at Wal-Mart, Walgreens, Costco, Babies R Us, Toys R Us and Sam’s Clubs nationwide. It gives parents a comforting option for taking a temperature. The Exergen TemporalScanner is gentle as a healing hand against a child’s face while it gauges body temperatures in two seconds by capturing the naturally emitted heat from skin over the temporal artery, which runs across the forehead and is directly connected to the heart via the carotid artery.
“Research proves that this is amongst the most accurate way to test for fever in all ages and it is clearly the least invasive,” says Exergen President Francesco Pompei, Ph.D., who developed and patented the technology. “We are proud to have developed it and stand behind each one we sell.”
The affordable Exergen TemporalScanner infared thermometer is tested six times for accuracy during manufacture at Exergen’s plant outside of Boston and comes with a one year warranty. Tests show it is accurate to within +0.2ºF–a much more accurate reading than taking the temperature any other way including oral, rectal, axillary (under the arm) and tympanic (in the ear). It’s also easy to use: Simply depress and hold its soft rubber-coated button and lightly scan across the forehead. A red LED light and soft beep indicate a correct scan. Ergonomically designed of injected molded plastic, the home unit features a high-contrast LCD temperature display, runs on a 9-volt battery (included), and meets and exceeds all regulatory requirements including FDA, ASTM and UL.
The only thermometer manufactured in the United States, the Exergen Temporal Scanner is also better for the environment, using infared sensor technology so it contains no mercury (like traditional glass bulb thermometers). The Exergen TemporalScanner also never needs any additional purchases, unlike tympanic thermometers, which neccessitate clean plastic probe covers with each new use. So what did we think about the Exergen Temperal Scan Thermometer?
We absolutely LOVE it!
It only takes a second to get an accurate temperature that I do not have to worry about adding or taking degrees away from. I also don’t have to worry about my child squirming or crying while I’m trying to take the temperature. They actually loved having their temperature taken with this thermometer and wanted to play with it. However, that is where I draw the line! This is Mommy’s fun new toy, so we had to put it up so little hands didn’t break it.
