About a year ago my younger boys started showing more interest in video games. This didn’t surprise me since the older boys had already been playing video games for a few years. My only concern was that we owned an X-Box 360 and most of the games were more mature than I wanted my younger boys to be playing. We didn’t have to search long before finding Skylanders, and boy were my boys happy!

Okay, first of all, if you are like I was in the beginning you might be asking… What are Skylanders? So, I’m going to take a moment to explain the whole Skylanders gaming system as best as I can.

What are Skylanders?

Skylanders is sort of a toy/video game in one created by Activision. The games are played by placing Skylanders character figures onto the Portal of Power, which is a small device that reads the tags on the bottom of the figures. By reading these tags on the bottom of the figures the game knows which characters you are wanting to use and it sort of imports that character into the game.

So for my boys this is more than just a video game. I often find them playing with the characters as if they were action figures, but other times they are using the characters to play their favorite video game! If you are like me and you are looking for a fun video game for your children to play that isn’t too mature then I would recommend Skylanders.
