I love to take photos. As a matter of fact, my children are so used to it that they run every time they see the camera being lifted to my eye (yeah, I’m one that still looks through the view finder). The fact that they run doesn’t stop me from trying though! I’m getting pretty good at quickly pointing and shooting my big dslr camera.
Every year I take my boys out to get outdoor photos for our Christmas cards. Normally I go out in the fall, but this year I have decided to wait until the snow falls to get pics. I sure hope that happens before it’s too late because I missed our first snowfall a couple of weeks ago.
Since we have been taking our own photos and having our Christmas cards made online for the last 10+ years I thought I might take a little time to share with you some fun holiday card photo ideas.
Fun Holiday Card Photo Ideas
1.) Fall leaves– The beautiful fall leaves when they are changing colors can make a great natural backdrop for Christmas card photos. You will have to time it just right, but most places have a window of 1-2 months to get these memorable photos.
2.) Snow– Take the family outdoors and snap a few photos of them while playing in the snow, or simply standing/sitting with the snow in the background. This is especially fun since it will more than likely be cold and snowing when recipients receive the cards.
3.) Silly Cards– This seems to be a new trend. I’ve seen people holding their children upside down and others with their tongues out. These cards always give me a good laugh, and we might just try it one of these years.
4.) Inspiring– Inspirational cards are great, especially for Christmas time, since it’s sort for the “reason for the season”.
5.) Pets– It goes without saying that pets make some of the cutest photos! If you have a furry loved one now is the chance to show them off!
6.) Share some news– It’s been a trend for the last several years that people share news of pregnancy, adoption, moving and more on their photo cards. This is a great way to surprise family and friends all at once!
7.) Be unique– Do something unique similar to my photo at the top of the page where my boys are all facing the opposite direction. Unique photos really capture an audience. I’ve seen some take photos of people emerging from water or jumping into the air. See what you can come up with, and I’m sure you’ll have fun doing it.
8.) Photo Collage– These are the new thing! Everyone loves sharing photos of their children. Now is your chance to pack your favorites all into one place to share with all of your friends and family members!
