Get Your Home Ready For Summer!
Many people don’t think about getting their homes ready for summer, but it really is something we should think about before the warmer weather hits. Summer is quickly approaching and now is a great time to check some of the home improvement projects off of our to-do lists! Make it a family affair—quality time together, while getting things done–that’s how we like to do it!
Install New Windows
This is definitely something to consider, not just for the warmer months, but also for the colder months as well. Not only do new windows look great, but they can also decrease your energy bill. If you live in an older home, you might even be able to get a tax refund by replacing your old windows—SCORE!
Another great way to get some family bonding time in is by starting a garden! This is a great way to get the whole family outdoors. Gardening is fun for the whole household. There’s just something about the pride in having grown your own fruits and veggies right there in your backyard. Not only do they taste better when they are fresh, but you will also save yourself a lot of money at the grocery store. And hey, you are helping the environment by cutting down on transport costs—again, SCORE!
Repair or Replace Your A/C
There’s no better time to replace your A/C unit than in the summer. If you have a large family, it’s of the utmost importance to keep everyone cool. When you’re ready to tackle air conditioning repair, make sure to find a reputable company that you trust. It’s a good idea to make an appointment with your air conditioning repair company slightly before or at the start of summer time, so you can avoid spending time in the middle of summer without sufficient cooling.
Re-Gloss Surfaces
Another great home improvement project you might consider this summer is giving your deck and updated look. Don’t worry, you don’t have to spend a fortune. By simply painting or staining your deck you can bring it back to a like-new state again. You can hire a professional if you are confident doing it yourself, however this would be a fun project for the family to do together.
Landscape
One of the things that we enjoy the most is landscaping. By summertime our landscaping is looking pretty drab and dreary. We like to get the whole family involved outside using our imaginations—even the little guys have great ideas when it comes to landscaping! If your yard is in need of a makeover, you might spend some time looking through your favorite home magazines, or if you are like me you’ll take to Pinterest to find ideas that inspire you.
Update the Kitchen
The kitchen is probably the biggest focal point of the whole house and that makes sense why it is the number one home improvement project for the summer time. This can be a very pricey project, however it is often well worth the expense. The kitchens and bathrooms are 2 of the best investments you can make into your home as they are almost guaranteed to give you a return on investment when it’s time to sell your house. You can save a little money by simply changing out counter tops, backsplash, flooring, lighting and cabinet handles. If your cabinets are in great shape, but they are outdated, you could refinish by adding a new coat of paint, however be sure to do some research before slapping the paint on because you will definitely want to prepare the cabinets for paint before applying.
With that being said, make the most of your summer break and have fun! Give the whole family projects and make them fun and enjoyable. Spend time together doing something that is going to make your home look better and family members proud to have helped with. You can seize the summer months while making memories together, while also making your home more comfortable, energy efficient and beautiful.
