I think it is important to teach our children that Christmas is not just about receiving gifts, but it is about giving as well. I want to instill this important lesson into my children while they are young. I want it to come naturally to them, and not just at Christmas time either. This is one of the reasons that I chose to work with The World Vision Gift Catalog.

The World Vision Gift Catalog has gifts that are unique and life-changing. These items provide a two-for-one benefit, meaning that they provide a meaningful and affordable gift for a loved one as well as proceeds that make a difference in the lives of children and families living in poverty in the U.S and around the world. With each financial contribution, the gift giver is able to select one of 36 items that can be given to someone on their holiday gift list and at the same time they are helping people in need.
Some of the gifts offered with a two-for-one benefit include:
-Handcrafted Thai Bracelet and Necklace Set
-Artisan Multi-Colored Necklace
-Artisan Beaded Necklace
-Ornament Set, handmade Zakale wire & bead ornaments from Nairobi. Zakale crafts are made from recycled materials by a group of Kenyan artisans reclaiming their own lives from poverty.
-Plush Toys
-World Vision Toy Race Car, a collectible 1:64 scale diecast model replica of the car that debuted by driver Regan Smith at the 2009 Chevy Rock & Roll 400 Sprint Cup Race at Richmond International Raceway.
Not only can you purchase items directly for loved ones, while helping out families in need, but you can also choose to simply purchase an item, such as a goat for a family in need and do it in a loved ones name. For instance, I may purchase a goat for a family in need and I may donate it from my 5 boys. I would then print a card for my boys so that they would know that I had bought this great item from them to someone who needed it. This is a great way to teach children. I love having my boys involved in things like this! It makes me feel good when I am able to put a smile on someone’s face. 🙂
For more information on how you can help or where you can purchase your gifts visit World Vision Gift Catalog. Also, be sure to check them out on Facebook. For the third consecutive year, World Vision staff will be traveling across the world this December to see the impact that goats, sheep and other gifts have on families and children. You can visit “The True Spirit of Christmas Tour” on Facebook for more information.
