We just returned home from a week long vacation. We had a blast while on vacation, however it didn’t end quite the way we had planned. Let me start from the beginning…
To prepare for our vacation we always take our vehicle in to the shop to have it looked over and inspected before we make a long drive. Since we were loading up all 5 kids and driving a LONG ways we didn’t want any mishaps along the way. First, the mechanic finds that something is wrong with my brakes and rotars. I was pleased that they found this before we left for vacation, although not happy about paying a high bill. I get my vehicle home and my husband starts having problems with his vehicle. We take his vehicle in and have to replace the fuel pump…ouch! This is not going good right before vacation. At this point I’m happy we already have our cabin rental paid in full and some of our tickets purchased. While driving my vehicle all over the place trying to get ready for vacation, the last day of school, and everything else that I had on my to-do list, I notice that my gas is quickly disappearing! I thought I had a gas leak and with the high prices of gas I was worried! Back to the mechanic we go. Apparently the sensor inside our gas tank was not working right and needed to be replaced. (There goes another couple hundred dollars!)
Things can’t get any worse, right?
We leave very early Tuesday morning for our vacation. Our vehicle is loaded to the max and the boys are super excited. Everything is going great and we are having a blast for the first few days, and then my husband comes down with what we think is a nasty bug. By Sunday he is so sick he can not leave the cabin. He is throwing up constantly and not well at all. I offer to take him to see a doctor, but the male in him says, “I’ll be fine and you all go have a good time while I stay here and rest.” I take the boys out venturing a little while feeling horribly guilty for leaving my husband back at the cabin, however I know that the only way he is going to get any rest is if we are not at the cabin making noise. We arrive back at the cabin to find Daddy fast asleep. We all pray that he is better the next day. The following day he is awake before any of us and not throwing up, however he has an intense pain in his stomach that just won’t go away. Everyone gets ready to head out for the day (this is our last day of fun as we were planning on heading home the following day-early in the morning.) My husband insists on going to the Aquarium and Mirror Maze with us. I can tell the whole time that he is in intense pain. I have never seen him like this. The boys are hungry, and my husband says he just wants to lay down a bit, so we take him back to the cabin and then go to get a bite to eat. When we arrive back at the cabin he is in even more pain and I say, enough is enough. We load up the vehicle and I drive him in to an urgent care facility. Once there they run tests and tell my husband that he has Appendicitis and needs surgery immediately. We are sent from there to the hospital where they are expecting us and rush him in for surgery. Everything went quite fast, however sitting in the waiting room with 5 kids while in another state and your husband having the first surgery he has ever had in his life with doctors you have never even heard of is a bit scary, to say the least. The hospital was WONDERFUL! I have to admit that we have never been treated better in our life! I will post a whole other post about the hospital and how wonderful they were later as I know this post is getting long.
My husband made it fine through surgery and all is well now that we are home and he is getting some rest.
I want to recap the last 14 days of my husband’s life for you as I think you all will agree that it was totally crazy, yet he definitely had God on his side.
First, he is driving home from work one day (he left work early to attend our son’s Pre-School graduation.) He’s running late and I’m getting worried, yet annoyed. When he gets home and tells me this story I’m really not believing him, but he got pictures with his cell phone and I knew he would never lie! (Seriously, how often does this happen?)

He is driving home from work and 2 horses get loose and run out in front of him. He barely misses hitting the one horse and then pulls into the driveway of the farm to tell the people that their horses are loose. No one is home and as he is rounding the corner of the house to go back to his vehicle a horse comes flying around the corner of the house and nearly tramples him! He said he was so close to this horse he could almost see up his nostrils! Scary!
After this incident he gets back into his vehicle, is a bit shaken, but trying to make it home in time for the preschool graduation and all of a sudden a wild turkey runs out in front of his car! REALLY? Now by the time he gets to this I’m thinking this story is getting a bit crazy…right? He said he thought for sure he hit the turkey because all he could see from the front of his truck is turkey feathers going everywhere. He gets out of his vehicle and watches the turkey run off the road into the woods!

Now he gets back into his car and is determined to get to the preschool graduation. He makes it there just a few minutes late, but also hits a bird after just missing the horses and turkey.
A couple of days later he had a business trip to make. He was on his way to Canada, which took him quite some time to prepare for since he had to get a passport and everything. He made it to the next town over and was rear ended by another car! His vehicle was not hurt, nor was he, however it did delay his trip and cause him to miss a day of work.

As if his luck couldn’t get any worse, he then had to have emergency surgery to have his appendix removed while on vacation miles and miles away from home.
I believe we need a vacation from vacation!
