It’s a new year, and we are going to be blogging about a lot of new things over here! In the past I’ve shared a lot about my children and different products that we have tried. That’s fun, but I want to share with you our family’s true passion…real estate! We are a family that dearly loves real estate. When I say that, I’m not exaggerating. Let me explain…
If you’ve been here long then you already know that we have been flipping houses since about 2012. It was scary the first couple of times, but has become a great adventure for us. We bond over table saws, paint colors, floor laying and good laughs while remodeling.
A few years ago we decided to do something that we had been thinking about for such a long time, however we were always too scared to jump into…rentals. Buying the first rental was super stressful. We dwelled on thought of buying and not having a renter or having something major go wrong. Our insecurities and unknowns kept us from doing something that we had been reading up on for so many years and truly wanted to do. That is, until one day we just finally decided that we were going to do it. We were taking the plunge.
We now have quite a few rentals, however we are taking the time now to remodel as many of them as we can. Our philosophy is that if the house isn’t something we would live in ourselves and up to our own standards, then I don’t want someone else paying me to live in it. While it does take from the profit, we know that we are giving others a nice home that they can feel comfortable in, and we know that by the time we are retirement age, it should have paid itself back.
With that being said, I’ll probably talk a little more about our journey in real estate as we take new ventures and jump into things that are unknown and sometimes a little bit scary. I’m always happy to answer questions along the way, so feel free to ask away!
Throughout this post are photos from our most recent rental remodel.
What do you think? Did we do ok?

Love the photos…the house looks gorgeous. Aren’t you afraid of putting the time and money into redoing houses to have a renter ruin and have to redo it again?

It’s good to do your homework and then go for it. Good luck.

I think this would be such a terrific skill to have. Love the pictures you posted, the house looks very fresh and clean. I like wood floors instead of carpet.
A friend of mine has supplemented her teaching income with flipping houses; her kids are graduating college debt-free. I wouldn’t even know where to start!
