Keep the Love Alive this Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is this week. I am sure many of you have plans for dinner, maybe a movie, or a gift card for something like massage candles. Not everyone has extravagant plans for Valentine’s Day, and not everyone celebrates this holiday, however we feel that it is important for parents to keep the love alive. Often times after having children parents tend to put their relationship on the back burner and they focus more on the kids, housework, bills and anything else that may come up. While these things are all important, the relationship should definitely be focused on. For what do you have if you don’t have love?

The lyrics to one of my favorite songs are…

If I sing but don’t have love
I waste my breath with every song
I bring an empty voice, a hollow noise
If I speak with a silver tongue
Convince a crowd but don’t have love
I leave a bitter taste with every word I say

There are more and more divorces these days. While I know that sometimes things just don’t work out, I have to say that I’m saddened to see how little effort some put into the relationship.  Being married isn’t always easy, heck, life isn’t easy, but no one ever said it was going to be easy. A happy marriage consists of both partners giving and taking. It’s not all about one giving and the other taking all of the time. Women, we need to remember this….sometimes our guys like a nice gift or a love letter every now and then. Sometimes, they need to know they are appreciated as well.

Since it’s Valentine’s Day week, why not surprise your spouse or loved one with an at-home massage? Massage oils and lotions make great gifts, as do gift cards to their favorite places. How about a date night? Try it!

So very true. It is a lot of work to keep a marriage going but the rewards are worth it.
