Practice makes perfect…
It doesn’t matter what you are doing, practice always makes a difference. When it came to teaching our children to ride their bikes we knew it was going to take some practice. One thing that really helped was a balance bike. Learning to balance is one of the most crucial parts to riding a bike. Without balance we would never be able to stay on the bike.
I’m not going to lie to you, when I first saw photos of a balance bike (before we had ever owned one) I thought it was silly and not something we really needed to spend the money on. Why would I pay for my child to have a bike with no pedals only to turn around and buy him a bike with pedals later? I must say, it may have seemed silly to me then, but it definitely doesn’t seem silly to me now. Two of our children have used balance bikes. Our now 4 year old was riding a bike without pedals by the young age of 3. He was a real pro and all of our friends with much older children were amazed! Even after he started riding his pedal bike, he still continued to ride his balance bike. It was great fun for him to speed through the house or down the sidewalk on his bike.
Check out this cute video of our 2 year old speeding through the house on his balance bike!

When we received the Kinderfeets balance bike our 2 year old was excited. He had no idea how much fun the bike really was, but he liked the idea of having something of his own. It didn’t take him long before he was flying through the house and down the sidewalk on his balance bike. He is a pro now and is almost ready to start riding a bike without training wheels. Actually, he may be able to ride a pedal bike now, but we were waiting until Christmas to purchase a new pedal bike for him.
