Sometimes in life we have to go through storms in order to see the rainbow.
This movie, Mercy Rule, was a great reminder of just that—that you can’t get your testimony without a test. Kirk Cameron and his wife Chelsea play pretty big roles in this movie. They are the mother and father of a young boy and girl. Their daughter, Bea, is very witty and she is always there to help her little brother when he needs her. Little brother, is going through some struggles in life that have him questioning a lot of things. His baseball season is not exactly going as he had planned. He’s not the only one who is struggling though, Dad is struggling with his business–the one his own father built from the ground up. He’s afraid of losing the business and is hurt and unsure of what comes next. While I admit that it would have been nice to hear/see him cry out to Jesus in his time of need, the storyline was great and you really felt the struggles this family was going through.
The characters in the movie were perfect! There were times when I was unsure of the coach’s role in the movie and why Kirk (we’re on a first name basis now-ha!) had chose this character role to be in the movie. It took a bit, but by the end of the movie I knew exactly why this character was chosen and he was a very big part of the movie. He’s not the only one that had a large rule. Comedian Tim Hawkins was in the movie. He played the brother of Kirk Cameron. I was delighted to see him in the movie. The character he played was so funny! He was the silly uncle we all know and love.

So, what do you do when you are faced with challenges and being attacked by the devil? This story is a great representation of staying strong when faced with adversity. Life has it’s way of throwing curve balls, but when we are geared up and ready to “catch” in the end we can come out on top—a good sport! You like how I threw those baseball terms in?
One of the biggest things my family and I got out of the movie was the love and support this family had for one another. When times got tough (and they do for all of us), no one ran away (although a couple of times I was worried that was about to happen). Instead, they did what was right and they fought for it.
Our family really enjoyed this movie. We laughed a little, felt the struggles of the characters, felt the love, and were overjoyed when things went right.
If you are looking for a family friendly movie that doesn’t compromise your morals and values, we think this one is a HomeRun!

Nice baseball references and review. This sounds like a deep, thought-provoking and inspirational movie. I have always like Kirk Cameron and will definitely add this to my list.
