This New Year is definitely not starting off as I had planned. We are definitely starting our new year off with a bang, but I wouldn’t exactly say in a good way.
Wednesday morning my 6 year old woke up with spots on him. He was very itchy and not at all happy about it! He just wanted to feel better! I felt so bad for him, but wasn’t sure at first if it was just a rash or his eczema acting up or the dreaded chicken pox. I say dreaded only because I am pregnant and didn’t think that I could be around them. We treated the couple of spots with Aveeno lotion (for itching) and Benadryl. Thursday he woke up with more spots. The doctor’s office was closed by the time I got around to calling them, so we ended up going into Urgent Care at the hospital over the weekend. They were able to confirm that he definitely has chicken pox. (And for those of you that are asking why I did not have my child vaccinated, I did. Actually 3 of my 4 children have been vaccinated for chicken pox.) I was very relieved though when the doctor told me that I should be ok being around him even though I’m pregnant since I have already had the chicken pox. He is doing quite well and I believe that he is done getting new spots now (I hope.) The doctor wrote him off of school all week though, so he will have to enjoy another week at home with Momma! 🙂 My 19 month old and 4 year old have had a cold for about a week now. They are both getting much better, but now the 19 month old is starting to run a fever. Of course, I’m thinking this is probably a sign that the chicken pox are on their way. The doctor told me to watch him the next week or so because he would more than likely run a fever (or not) and then contract the chicken pox himself. I guess once we get them at least we will be done with them and won’t have to worry again. (I hope.) This is actually the first time our family has ever had them. (Besides my hubby and I.)
It gets worse…
Last night we went to my sister’s house. The kids played with their nephews, the guys worked on their kitchen remodel and us girls sat and watched, My Sister’s Keeper. Good movie! Have a box of tissues handy though!
We had a good night, but got home a little late. We forgot to let the water drip before going to bed (you know what’s coming) and the temps were freezing last night. We woke this morning to frozen pipes! My hubby has been working out in the freezing cold all day trying to get them thawed. Still no luck! It’s currently 2:30 in the afternoon and none of us have been able to get a shower…yikes! I was hoping to be able to get a little more accomplished today, but I guess a day relaxing and doing nothing is ok every now and then too. I just wish I could flush my toilet without dumping water in the back! Good thing I had some water, but I had to pay for that water! So now my hubby is on his way to Menards for the 2nd time today (4th time this weekend) so he can purchase some sort of heater or something to thaw the pipes. I’m sure they are not cheap either!
So, that is how our new year is starting off. I just hope the rest of the year goes better.
How has your new year started out?
