Some of you may remember from previous posts, but for those of you that do not remember I want to take a moment to talk about the only other girl in the house…our pet! Her name is Sadie and she’s an adorable Goldendoodle (that’s part Golden Retriever and part Poodle). She’s super spoiled, hyper and loves to run with our boys! She joined our family at Christmas time 2 years ago. I know what they say about making puppies Christmas gifts, but she was one of the best gifts our family received! We had been looking for a puppy for quite some time (we needed something hypoallergenic since several of our nephews are allergic to dogs, and we love to have their company!) She just happened to be born and available to go home with us right before the holidays. It was perfect!
She quickly attached to our boys and would sit in their laps as they read to her and everything! She just loved the attention! As she grew she’d get more creative about where she sat. She didn’t mind if her favorite spot by the window was taken, she’d just improvise!
(Sorry the pic is so little. This one came off of my phone and I wasn’t able to blow it up).
As she grew she got more and active with our boys. They love to run around the yard (and the house with her). One evening I decided to go to the grocery a little later. As I was checking out I received a phone call from my husband. I don’t think I’ll ever forget it because it really scared me! He said that our younger boys were playing in their bedroom with Sadie and they had put one of her toys on top of the dresser. (They were sort of teasing and as they say…playing hide n go seek with her, only they put the toy too high for her). When she went to jump up to get the toy off of the top of the dresser she landed wrong on her leg as she came down and she broke it! We took her to the vet (whom we have a close relationship with) and she confirmed that it was indeed broken. We were referred to a specialist because of the type of break and had to drive almost 2 hours one way to have surgery. My poor puppy! My poor wallet! It wasn’t until this happened that I realized that we should have thought about purchasing pet insurance for our puppy. I mean, we have it for the rest of the family, and she’s definitely just as rowdy as our boys!
(Look how sad she looks with her broken leg!)
In comes Healthy Paws Pet Insurance®. It is the #1 customer-rated pet insurance, and they are there when you and your pet need them the most. Healthy Paws® pays up to 90% of vet bills.*
Pet insurance helps you focus on giving your pet the best care without having to worry about the cost. I definitely wish we would have thought about the pet insurance from the beginning–before we had to fork out $2,000 for surgery (on the spot!)
One thing I must stress is that pet insurance (just like our insurance) doesn’t cover pre-existing conditions, so it is very important that you sign your pet up early (before they break a leg or eat some pills out of your purse!) Pet owners are reading up on and learning about pet insurance daily, but only 1% of pet owners actually have pet insurance for their pets. We definitely think it’s worth checking out!

I didn’t know that you could get pet insurance. I don’t have pets, but I will share this with family and friends.

Our dog broke his pelvis once by getting hit by a car that drove through our yard. Pet insurance is great for instances like this.

We had pet insurance when my dog broke his leg. I will always get insurance for our pets. We were so lucky we had it when Pal needed the surgery to fix his leg.

Oh! I can’t even imagine my cat breaking a leg. She did skin the bottom of her feet doing too much jumping from surface to concrete in our basement recently and even that was painful for me to go through so I know Id be a wreck if she broke something.

Pet insurance is so important. A lot of people don’t think that they need it when they get a pet but you never know what kind of expenses medically that will happen.
Jeanine says
Way back when we got our dog chase, he was in our house 2 weeks and he broke his leg. We didn’t have pet insurance, so it was super expensive for all of his X-rays, constant cast changes and everything. I realized then and there pet insurance was a must. You just never know what will come up.

Those pet surgeries do add up in cost!
I paid quite a bit just to get my dog’s teeth cleaned – anesthesia alone is costly.
On another note, your dog is a cool breed mix!

I’ve heard of people spending all kinds of money on medical expenses for their pets. I bet they wish they’d had pet insurance.

My dog Tuc is a 2 year old pitbull/black lab. He is the biggest goofball, lovebug that you would ever meet. He is also a bed hog. I am considering getting a kingsize bed so that I might have a little room at night.

Sorry to hear about your dog. Sometimes it’s hard when they get hurt. I have a bulldog puppy and the breed has a history of having many problems, but they are a great breed. Keeping my fingers crossed that he stays healthy!
