Recently we were sent a 6 pack of Potty Scotty padded training pants. I have been wanting to start potty training my 20 month old son, as I’m really hoping to not have 2 in diapers. I have never had 2 in diapers.
Our potty training hasn’t been great this week due to the fact that my son has been sick. However, I have to tell you how he reacted when he saw his “big boy underpants.” When I first showed him his new underpants I told him they were for big boys and that he isn’t a baby anymore. We talked about the new baby coming (he loves babies) and about how diapers are for babies. I even had him throw one of his diapers away. (This is pretty much how I have started all of the boys. All of my boys were trained by 2 1/2.) The Potty Scotty padded training pants are so very cute! We put the first pair of training pants on and he wore them around for a couple of hours. I kept asking him if he had to potty and he would say yes, we would sit in the bathroom for a while, and then shortly after leaving the bathroom he would potty in his underpants. (Once again though, he hasn’t been feeling well. I have backed off for a bit until he is better.) Back to my story…he peed in his little underpants the first time and I took them off of him and started to wash them out. As I go to throw them in the laundry hamper my son begins to cry. I mean, he was really crying too. I walk in to find him trying to climb into the hamper after these underpants! He absolutely LOVES the underpants! This is not the first time we have tried little underwear on him either. It’s just the first time he has reacted this way. He was super excited when I pulled out the second pair and put them on him. I actually got a diaper out and a pair of the Potty Scotty training pants and he threw the diaper! I’m not saying that all kids are going to react this way to these underpants, but my son really loves them! He was even excited to show them to Daddy when Daddy arrived home from work that night! So, if you were to ask my 20 month old son his opinion of these training pants I’m sure you would get a thumbs up, maybe even 2!
I love the look and the feel of the Potty Scotty padded training pants. The only thing that I didn’t like a whole lot was that they aren’t completely waterproof, however, Potty Scotty does make a waterproof training pant as well that I think we may have to purchase and try out. You can also buy plastic-like underwear covers to place over the training pants to protect the outer clothing if you would like. The good thing about these underpants though is that your child can feel when they have an accident. I never really liked pull-ups because they reminded me of a diaper. They soak up enough and the child doesn’t always realize they had the accident.
