Preparing For Winter When You Have Kids
I’m sure most of you have been through many winter months, however have you ever actually sat down and prepared before the cold and snow hit? Are you shaking your head no? For years I would wait until the cold hit and then I would run out for things that we were in need of. You know, coats, boots, all of the necessities to keep us warm from the cold and weather?
I decided a couple of years ago that it was silly to wait until the last minute to buy these items, especially since I already knew I was going to be needing them. That’s when I started to make a list of everything I would need for the colder months and I went out and purchased those items before they were at their peak price. I mean, retailers can charge more for a winter coat when they know you need it.
I found all of the items we need at Sierra Trading Post and was super impressed with the prices! When you have 5 children to purchase for and you are on a budget, you shop smart.
What We Buy Ahead of Time:
1.) Boots– You need to invest in a warm pair of boots for winter. We are super impressed with these boots we found at Sierra Trading Post. Not only are they super warm, but if you buy them a little big you can put a couple pair of socks on and get a little more use out of them. I’m all about stretching my dollars!
2.) Winter Coat– If you live in an area that gets cold (like Ohio!) then you will definitely want a good warm winter coat. We found this $180 North Face jacket at Sierra Trading Post (see pic above) for less than $100! Cha ching!
3.) Hat, Gloves & Scarf– For those super cool days you will want to bundle up. It’s always good to have a couple of hats and gloves on hand. I don’t know how many times we had to search for these items. I now keep a bin full of them and everyone knows that when they come off they go back in the bin. We no longer have to search!
ย 4.) Snow pants– We have brutal winters here in Ohio, however my kids love to go out to play in the snow. They also love to help shovel snow. We always make sure that everyone has at least one good pair of snow pants to keep them warm. We found the snow pants in the photo above for less than $20 at Sierra Trading Post!
I also love that I can pick up some super cute winter accessories for myself and some pretty cool stuff for my husband as well! Sierra Trading Post has a great selection for the whole family and the prices are pretty great as well!
I hope this helps you prepare for winter. You can find all of the products above and more at Sierra Trading Post. We love that they carry many different name brand products for such a discounted price! I also really like that you don’t have to wait a long time to get your products because 98% of all orders ship within one business day. Isn’t that awesome!?
Don’t forget that you will get FREE Shipping on orders of $75 or more when shopping Sierra Trading Post from October 31- November 14, 2016.

I have to mentally prepare for Michigan winters every year. This year I want a new winter coat and snow pants! I shop for winter clothes at the end of the season and put them away for the next one.
Mandee says
That’s a great plan! I can only imagine how rough your winters are up in Michigan!
Theresa says
It gets nasty here in the Midwest and it is definitely best to buy these things ahead of time. 2 years ago it snowed on Halloween, this year it was 70 degrees out. Our weather is just too unpredictable to not be prepared for it ahead of time.
Mandee says
I hear ya! Our weather has been crazy here in Ohio lately! One day I’m in shorts and the next we have jackets on!

All these outerwear options look so cozy and snuggly and most of all sturdy enough to stand up to a harsh winter and still let kids be comfortable and warm and have the flexibility they need to move around and play outside! Can’t wait to shop this collection! Thanks for sharing!

I prepare for winter by buying all their winter clothes on clearance at the beginning of spring! It’s great to be prepared because one day it will be cold and have nothing for them that fits!
