I was recently asked to review a product called Safe Eyes. What is Safe Eyes, you ask? It is a cd that you install onto your computer that protects your little one’s eyes from the harsh stuff on the internet.
When I was first ask to review this product I wasn’t sure if it was something for me. However, knowing what kind of stuff is on the internet, and since my 9 year old and 6 year old like to play games from time to time I thought this would be a great product for their computer. I wanted to put the product on their computer, but am having problems with their computer, so I ended up installing it onto my laptop. At first I was a little bit annoyed by it because it must not have installed fully or something. I was having a hard time viewing any site. You see, if the Safe Eyes program is turned off you will not be able to access the internet. While this did annoy me, when I think about it for my children it’s actually a good thing. I would rather their little eyes be protected than see all of the harsh things that are out there. We just want to protect our children, right?
Once I had the program installed correctly I found that I actually liked the idea of it. I remember when our oldest was younger and the Wiggles were first coming out in the US we tried typing in the word Wiggles (my hubby and I) and we were amazed at what sort of stuff appeared on the screen! You see, it doesn’t really matter what is typed, there is always going to be something negative that can come up. I know that my little guys (right now) aren’t going to be purposely typing in bad things (at least I hope they aren’t!) But, it’s the accidental typing that can be just as bad! Oh, and I almost forgot to mention one of the things that I think we will benefit the most from this product…it has time limits! You can set the amount of time you want your child to be on the computer and they will not be allowed on any longer! How great is that?
I figured since I was doing a review on the product I had better fully test it out, so I started typing in things like You Tube (which is completely blocked) however, if you like to go to You Tube you can add it to sites to allow (your choice.) I also typed things in like Victoria’s Secret and a few other sites that I know I really don’t want my little boys eyes viewing. They were all blocked!
So, I’m actually glad I decided to test this product as I think it is going to be great on the boys’ computer!
Thanks Safe Eyes for protecting my little guys’ eyes!
