What do you do to relieve stress after a long day?
Do you ever hide in the corner eating chocolate hoping that none of the kids (or hubby) walk in and see you? I do! As a matter of fact, my husband has been out of town for the past week and while we were doing great with our routine and so forth earlier this week yesterday the kids were extra high strung!
I guess it probably didn’t help that I took all 5 boys to church with me by myself for the first time. The older boys attend a religion class and instead of starting class last night we had a special celebration at the church and then a “Meet the Teacher” celebration afterward next door to the church. The kids were really good the whole first part of church, but towards the end my 2 year old started to get bored.
I had gum in my purse. He spotted the gum and asked for a piece. I gave him a piece, but he wanted 2 pieces, one for his mouth and one for his hand, so I gave him 2 pieces. As he is sitting there holding the one piece he drops it. Uh oh he says, but then he gets really upset because he can’t find it! His voice is getting a little louder, but I’m able to calm him down. That’s about the time that my 5 year old decides he is bored too, and I see his little fingers raise up to his brother’s nose like he is going to flip him in the nose. I caught him just in time and gave him the “Don’t do that eye.” He stopped for a moment and then out the corner of my eye I see his little hands moving towards his brother again. Then my 2 year old jumps down to the floor and starts asking where his older brothers were (they were sitting with their classmates.) I try to point them out, but he is at the age where he has to continuously be reminded of things as he continues to ask the same questions over and over and over. My oldest said he could hear his little brother all the way on the other side of the church…yikes! I was really hoping he wasn’t that loud. They really did do quite well though considering we were gone for an hour and a half.
When we got home I had to make sure the older 2 got their baths since they didn’t have a chance to get them before church. It was pretty hectic for a bit because the boys were still wound up from singing bible songs and stuff at church. They weren’t ready for bed, but it was way past their bedtime after baths. Once I got them all to bed do you know what I did? I sat down, put my feet up and ate some chocolate! It felt so good!
My 2 year old has been keeping me on my toes and very busy.
He dumped a whole BIG bag of dog food all over my hallway and halfway into my living room today while I was making lunch. I asked his 5 year old brother to help him clean it up for me while I was nursing the baby. As soon as they had the dog food all cleaned up my 2 year old dumped it again! Ahhhh! This time I let the boys go play in the other room while I cleaned it all up and then I got rid of it! I wasn’t leaving it out for him to dump again.
After cleaning the dog food I went into the bathroom to wash my hands and I slipped and almost fell!
The boys had gone in there earlier to use the restroom, so I thought, but apparently they were playing in water! Today has been one of those days that I really couldn’t turn my head because while I was cleaning up one mess they were making another!
All messes are clean now and my 2 year old wore himself out so much he fell asleep on the couch next to me! My 5 year old seems pretty tuckered too because he is laying quietly on the couch watching cartoons. Silence….:)
I took the baby in for his well check today. I was supposed to take him last Friday, but since I had my surgery then I brought him in today. He will be 7 weeks tomorrow and is 13 1/2 pounds and 23 3/4 inches long! He is growing great and everything looks good! 🙂
As for the lump on my neck…
I had some blood drawn today and will be getting a thyroid ultrasound next week. I’ll keep you all posted. (He said something about it maybe being a cyst, although we won’t know anything until we get the blood results and ultrasound.)
More to Come on Raising My 5 Sons…
