sidelined

I’m going to start off by admitting that my schedule is so full (especially this time of the year) that I rarely have time to read. I’m also going to admit that when I signed up for this review I was in such a hurry that I didn’t take the time to fully read all of the details.  You see, I thought I was signing myself up to review a movie about Chuck Pagano…a touching football movie that my whole family would love. When the book arrived I was a little…confused. It was then that I looked back through my emails and saw that I had actually signed up to review “Sidelined” the book about Chuck Pagano.

Do you know who Chuck Pagano is?

In January of 2012 Chuck Pagano was introduced as the new head coach of the Indianapolis Colts. Just three weeks into the 2012 NFL season, after many long days of training, he was diagnosed with leukemia. At first Pagano simply thought he was run down from all of the hours put into training and getting his team ready for the season. It wasn’t until he forced himself to get checked out by one of the team doctors that he would be delivered the news…that would change everything.

As I mentioned above, I didn’t really have time to sit down and read a story, especially during my busiest time of the year, but I had agreed to read this story and I was determined to do just that. Let me honest one more time…I didn’t think I was going to like the book. Please don’t stop reading there because you need to hear me out. I’m not the biggest football fan. I mean, I enjoy watching football with my boys (I do live in a house full of boys!) But, with that being said, I have no idea what they are talking about when they are making calls. I do know enough to know who is in the lead though.

One of my best friends is the wife of a head football coach (high school). She has told me stories about how her family takes the team in as if they were family. They love and respect one another and they look out for one another. As I’m reading this story I’m really starting to understand what she meant. Chuck Pagano not only loves the sport, but he loves the players (family) on his team. He genuinely wants to see them do well and he feels their pain when they hurt. I could not put the book down. I cried during moments as I could feel the sadness and the emotions coming through from the author.

I truly feel that I was meant to take a break and that this book was supposed to fall into my hands.

Chuck Pagano has been through a great struggle in his life, but one thing he knew is that God had a plan for him. Through his story of pain, passion and perseverance (quoted from the book), you will discover that God has a plan for you too. I’m telling you right now…it doesn’t matter if you love, hate or could care less about football…this story about Chuck Pagano and his struggles is a great read for all.

Thank you for this opportunity! I would use the certificate to put towards a birthday gift at the end of January. Thank you for the review about Chuck Pagano – I don’t know much about football, but do think we all need the reminder that God has a plan for each one of us. Sometimes it’s easy to loose sight of that.

This sounds like it would be a great read for both my husband and myself. I know I could really get into the story, even without having a huge football background.

I review a lot of book, mostly because I love to read and paying for all these books would cost me a small fortune. And yes there are times when I am super busy and wish I hadn’t taken on so many book reviews. However, I find it relaxing to read right before bedtime so it does have some benefits. I find those books I read, even when fiction, many times teach me a lesson. Of course you also have times when not every book is a perfect fit.
