Toddler Food Doesn’t Have to be Hard
Sometimes planning a meal for a toddler can be a bit of a challenge, especially if your toddler is picky. Making sure that your child has a balanced diet from a young age is very important. While some parents frown on giving their children snacks throughout the day, we have found that snacks can be a great way to keep children happy between meals. Let’s face it, we all get hungry between meals, and there is no need to try to cover hunger up by giving our children another glass of milk. Would we drink a glass of milk if we were hungry? Probably not. Below is a great list of toddler food that even the pickiest eaters will enjoy.
Snacks for kids: Toddler Food Ideas:
- Fruits and Veggies cut into small pieces. You can make it fun by feeding them celery, carrots and apples dipped in peanut butter. Bananas taste great with peanut butter as well! Maybe have a plate full of yummy fruits and veggies with a side of peanut butter. Be sure to monitor as peanut butter can stick to the roof of the mouth making it hard to swallow. Having a glass of milk along with this snack would be a great addition.
- Pretzels are a delicious treat that even some of the pickiest eaters enjoy.
- Fruit salad, fruit cups or applesauce. All delicious and healthy!
- Graham Crackers with Peanut Butter
- Peanut Bunny Sandwich (Take a bunny shaped cookie cutter, make a peanut butter sandwich and cut in the shape of a bunny with cookie cutter).ย You can also make peanut butter and banana (or whichever fruit you prefer) sandwiches.
- Puffs—You can buy these in the baby food section at your local grocery store. They are super easy to swallow and great for young children.
- Popcorn—If your child is real young you may want to stick with the puffcorn sold in the potato chip aisle of your local grocer, however if they are old enough you can take the kernels out and give your child a little popcorn. We sometimes drizzle cinnamon, chocolate or caramel on ours to make it an even sweeter treat!
- Cheese—String cheese is fun for little ones to eat and a great source of calcium.
- Granola bars—They feel like a candy bar, but they are healthy!
- Yogurt–This is a great pro-biotic and a good source of calcium. You could use it as a dip for fruits, freeze into Popsicles or eat by itself.
- Party Mix–Cheerios, Chex cereal, miniature marshmallows, raisins, pretzels and M&M’s make a great party mix for kids!
- Jell-O is fun, especially when you make them Jigglers!
This is just a short list to get you started. We encourage you to have fun with your child’s food and make snack time is a part of your daily routine.

How cute are these snacks! I love to blend fruit, veggies and yogurt together then freeze it on a popsicle stick. The kids think it is dessert when it is healthy! ๐

Both my boys are quite picky but one thing they do love is fruit, especially watermelon, strawberries and cherries. Between the two of them they can destroy a watermelon in just a couple of days. I wish they liked more vegetables but when I was their age I hardly ate any. They are snackers and I’ve found that if I gave them a something small after school they wouldn’t eat dinner so we eat really early conpared to most families. It works out well not only because of sports but we get to eat together as a family almost every night.
