Every year I make resolutions to get more organized, be a better parent, exercise more, eat healthier…you know, the usual things that people really want to do, but don’t always stick with? Yeah, I think about those things every year. I think about them with great desire and I really want these to be my goals. So what happens? Why would I have to make these resolutions time and time again if I had so much fire inside me the first time I made them?
Well, while I won’t say that I failed (because I truly don’t believe it’s failing) I will say that I lived. You see, no one is perfect. We all feel like we need to one up the guy next to us and we need to strive to be someone or something we are not.
I am definitely not saying that we shouldn’t set goals and we shouldn’t strive to achieve more. I totally agree with setting goals and putting our all into things that we are passionate about, but what I am saying is that we don’t have to be so hard on ourselves, and we don’t have to strive for perfection.
If you are giving it your all then that is all that matters.
If you are happy and you feel in charge, then who cares what others think, right?
That’s hard to do…the whole not caring about what others think. But think about how much easier life is when you aren’t so concerned about onlookers and competing with those around you.
Life is much more beautiful. Much more pleasant, and so much more rewarding.
When I know that I have done all that I can do to achieve something that is important to me I feel great.
When I know that even though I might not have the most organized house on the block, but I have parts of my house in the order that I would like them to be, then I’m happy.
When I know that I’m not as thin as some of the people around me, but I have put forth the effort to lose a little weight, I’m happy.
When I know that while I’ve been trying to eat healthier, I might have had some cheat days, but I’ve put forth the effort to try, I’m happy.
Do you get where I’m going with this?
You can be happy simply by living. Live without looking at how others are living.
And please know that I have so many post ideas to share this year, but sometimes I’m just tired, and that’s okay.
More to come on Raising My 5 Sons…
