It is extremely important that we as parents teach our children the importance of good oral health. Many parents feel that they do not need to brush their child’s teeth until they are toddlers. This really is wrong. You should start while they are young, even before their teeth pop through. It never hurts to gently rub their gums with something, like Spiffies!
Our toddler hates having his teeth brushed. All of our other boys loved brushing their teeth, however the youngest fights and cries when I try to brush his teeth, making it hard on the both of us. When I was contacted about doing a review for Spiffies tooth wipes I figured I was open to try anything and was happy to try them.
The first time I wiped my son’s teeth he freaked out a bit. He wasn’t sure what I was doing, however once I explained and showed him, he calmed down. Does he love having me mess around in his mouth? No, he doesn’t. I won’t lie. However, it is much easier for me to use Spiffies wipes on his teeth then it is for me to pry his mouth open with a toothbrush and brush.
I think he likes the flavor of the Spiffies, however he hates having my hand in his mouth because I have actually seen him trying to wipe his own teeth with Spiffies wipes. I think it’s great when they want to do things on their own, although it may make our job a little bit more difficult at times, it really does teach them independence as well as giving them a good self esteem. My little guys are always so proud of themselves when they do a good job and are praised for it.
A Little More About Spiffies Cleaning and Teething Wipes and I Can Brush…
Spiffies and I Can Brush were created by pediatrician Ray Wagner, MD.
Spiffies Cleaning and Teething Wipes are individually packaged towelettes containing a xylitol rich formula and have been shown to be therapeutic for reducing bacteria in the mouth, as lower bacteria levels means fewer or NO cavities! These wipes are great for on-the-go (I keep some in my purse!) or use them when baby is asleep (this is my favorite way to use them!), especially after night time feedings. Parents have claimed that these wipes have also soothed inflamed gums when cooled in the refrigerator much like a cool compress and massage.
Spiffies I Can Brush Tooth-Brushing Liquid can stop the tooth-brushing tears and unnecessary battles. This 100% natural tooth-brushing liquid is rich in the cavity fighter Xylitol. Spiffies, I Can Brush is fluoride-free and paraben-free. It is not gritty or pasty and has a great taste that kids love! (Our 3 year old loves it!) This product is safe for babies older than 6 months of age and toddlers. This all natural tooth brushing solution is available in a delicious grape flavored solution that has a pleasant taste that your child will like, and little ones will actually WANT to brush their teeth once they try the “I Can Brush” solution.
Dr. Wagner recommends that you put some solution in a small cup and let your child dip their toothbrush into it and brush for a few minutes. You should be there to support, encourage and finish the brushing, but impromptu tests show that children love to brush with I Can Brush and it’s important to have a positive first experience with tooth-brushing. As it is both paraben and fluoride-free, there is no harm to your child if a small amount is actually swallowed. Learn more at http://www.spiffies.com/.

Lead by example! Dd uysually always wants to brush her teeth when she sees me brushing mine! I will brush for her to make sure all teeth are brushed and then I let her ‘finish’ brushing.

My older kids are great about brushing since I started giving them a toothbrush at a very young age. While I’m doing my DD’s hair I have her brush her teeth at the same time, not only does her teeth get brushed but it also helps me out by her holding still.

Doing it myself and them copying me.
Melinda Chrisman says
My kids have always like brushing their teeth, I let them start holding their toothbrush at around 1 so they like doing it. I still help, but they feel accomplished or like they are doing something special.
