I think I have mentioned in the past how much I love the holidays and creating fun things in the kitchen and art room with my boys! Any excuse to take a break from our regular studies and do something fun, and we are all in! This time we are experimenting with GOLD! Not real gold, but we can pretend, right? Now, my boys are walking around the house playing “Find the Hidden Treasure”. It’s a game they made up themselves where one person hides the gold and gives subtle clues to the others and they have to go off on an adventure to find the gold. So Fun!
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
- River Rocks or Stones (can find at Dollar Tree)
- Fine or Extra Fine Gold Glitter (can find at Hobby Lobby)
- Mod Podge (matte finish)
- Craft Foam Brush
- Newspaper to cover work area (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. You will want to cover your work surface with newspaper. This step is important so you have an easy cleanup.
2. Using your foam brush paint a thin layer of mod Podge onto a rock or stone.
3. While the Mod Podge is still tacky, lightly sprinkle some of the gold glitter over the area
where the Mod Podge is applied.
4. Gently tap the rocks to remove excess glitter and avoid clumps.
5. Allow the area to dry.
6. Once the first area is dry you can work on other sections of the rock until the entire rock
is covered in glitter. (I started with the top then worked on the sides then flipped over
to do the bottom).
7. Once your rocks are completely dry you can coat the entire rock with a thin layer of
Mod Podge (it dries clear) to seal the glitter. This will keep glitter from rubbing off onto
other surfaces. (Make sure it’s completely dry before doing this).

What a fun craft. I love that my little ones could do this too. Can’t wait to collect some rocks

“Find the Hidden Treasure” sounds like a super fun game. I would enjoy doing this craft also with my niece and nephew.
