*Edited to say that we actually started school today! The first day went great! (This post was written last week). I can’t wait to update you more once we have put more time in with our schooling!
(Photo is not our school, however it’s what I think of when I think of a one-room school house. That’s what we have here in our house, however we have a few more rooms to roam when things get cramped! 🙂 )
Remember when I told you I had taken that job last year working at my boys’ private school doing Fundraising, Finances and Secretary work (among other things)? Well, you might also remember me saying that we have decided to stay home this year. By stay home I do not mean that I’M staying home, I mean that we are ALL staying home! That’s right! With much thought and lots of prayer we have decided that it will be best if our whole family is home this year.
I’ve been wanting to sit down and write about what we plan to do, however it wasn’t until just recently that we finally made a decision. Again, it took a lot of thought and prayer before we knew exactly where and what we needed to be doing.
We have decided to enroll our boys in Sycamore Academy, and we are pretty excited about it (so are our boys!)
For those who have never heard of Sycamore Academy I’ll include a little more info below (because I’ve already had several friends and family members wanting info).
About Sycamore Academy:
Sycamore Academy has been around since 1982. They provide homeschool educational services to students in grades K-12 all over the world. All of Sycamore Academy teachers have credentials and/or masters in the subject that they teach.
There are several options you can choose from with Sycamore Academy:
Text-Based Homeschool Program– With this program Sycamore Academy guides you through the teaching process. You will teach your child in grades K-12 and they will assist you. The teachers at Sycamore Academy will monitor your student’s work each quarter to ensure he or she is getting the education they deserve. They also provide student ID cards, annual standardized tests, official transcripts, high school diplomas and more through the text-based program.
Online Program– With the online program your student has the opportunity to work anytime from anywhere they choose. He/she will do schoolwork on the computer each day and can connect with the server to upload their work. All grading and track will be done by Sycamore Academy teachers (giving Mom and Dad more time to do other things). No lesson planning, no grading—no hassle! (I’m pretty excited about having chosen this option for our older boys!)
Our younger boys will be doing the text-based homeschool program and our older boys will be doing the online program. I believe this is going to be a great option for our family and I’m so very excited to get started! I love that the staff at Sycamore Academy are very friendly and helpful and they are available when I have questions (even if I think they are silly!)
Since this is going to be a big part of our life I’m sure you are going to be hearing much more about our schooling in future posts. I’m just so excited to be doing this and can’t wait to share more soon.
