Over the last few years more and more people have started working from home. While it isn’t necessarily a bad thing, some can find it challenging to stay focused and productive in the beginning. For most people the home is your place to relax and unwind, it can be challenging to find that balance and motivation. Another challenge when working from home, or in an office, is exercise. I know for myself personally, I have found that when I’m sitting a lot during the day, I feel more tired and unmotivated to get things done after I have completed my work tasks. We wanted to provide you with some tips to help whether you are working from home or in an office outside of the home.
Tips For Staying Healthy and Active While Working a Desk Job
1.) Take Breaks– If you are able to take short breaks, do so. When you take a break try to walk away from your desk for a bit. Maybe refill your water bottle, get some fresh air outdoors, take a stroll around the house/building, or simply walk the halls for a bit.
2.) Stand Up– If possible, while working, try to stand from time to time. This will help with your posture and circulation. Moving around can help you stay motivated as well.
3.) Under Desk Exercise Equipment– A piece of exercise equipment such as a compact elliptical is a great way to get exercise while sitting at your desk. I personally own the one from Cubii and love it!
4.) Stretches– Make it a point to do some casual stretches a few times a day while sitting at your desk.
5.) Comfortable Chair– Having a chair that is comfortable is super important, especially if you are going to be sitting in it much of the work day. Wired offers a list of comfortable office chair options.
6.) Monitor Positioning– Make sure your monitor is in a position that you won’t have to strain to look at it. Adjust your monitor and your chair so that your neck is in a comfortable position when looking at the screen.
