It’s the little things that can make a difference. Teaching our children that money doesn’t grow on trees is very important to us. I feel like this goes hand in hand with teaching our children to live a greener lifestyle. Some may call it frugal, but I like to say I’m being green. Think about that statement, “Money doesn’t grow on trees.” Really, it doesn’t, but trees are cut down to make it. Let’s save a tree and save a dollar while we are at it! In an effort to live a little green and save a little green we have vowed to reduce, reuse and recycle in our home. We are taking part in the P&G Every Day Effect Campaign. Little things like turning off the lights aren’t always things you think of when you walk out of a room. We have made our boys conscious of this and are making it a point to turn the lights out whenever someone leaves a room. It’s the little things that can really add up and make a difference. Being green isn’t just for parents, the kids can get involved too! As a matter of fact, I sometimes need my children to remind me that I’m throwing something away that could be recycled or doing something I could do differently and in a greener way.
Another thing I have been doing, and I really love this, is using reusable containers. My boys pack their lunches 4 days a week, so we go through plenty of baggies and other containers. I have purchased reusable baggies and also fill water bottles at home. It saves us money, but also saves the landfill!
