I started having problems with my stomach a few years ago. At first, I just learned to deal with it, but eventually it got to the point where I could no longer take the pain and discomfort. I decided to visit my family doctor. He put me on medication for GERD. I took the medicine for a while, but didn’t really notice a difference. After several visits to various doctors with no real change, I decided to see a surgeon. Many people had told me that their gallbladder caused the pain and symptoms I was experiencing and I just wanted to have my gallbladder tested. Sure enough, my gallbladder failed the test and the surgeon scheduled me for surgery. I was relieved, thinking that I would soon be rid of all of the complications. Everyone I talked to said that they had immediate relief and they felt like a new person once their gallbladder was gone. I was looking forward to some normalcy.
After the removal of my gallbladder I felt okay for a few months (although I was really watching what I was eating due to having to now use the bathroom a LOT). I felt like the only reason I wasn’t feeling horrible was because I was getting rid of everything I ate almost immediately after eating. This was no way to live. There had to be another way. So, for the last 2 years I have been trying to figure out what I can do to feel normal again. My doctors ran a bunch of different tests and everything came back fine, so I was left on my own to figure it out.
There was one thing they never mentioned….the one thing that could really make a difference, and that was taking probiotics and taking care of my gut. Now that I no longer had a gallbladder, it was more important than ever that I take care of my stomach.
Let’s talk about about Probiotics for a minute.
What are Probiotics?
They are beneficial microorganisms that reside on and within the body. The primary role of the probiotics is to assist with the digestion and utilization of nutrients from your diet and to promote gut motility. They can also synthesize some nutrients, such as B vitamins and vitamin K. They are also important for immune system development an support normal immune system function by modulating the activity of specific immune system cells and maintaining normal barrier function, as well as through other aspects of immune function. They also play a role in protecting the delicate tissues of the gut, where a lot of the immune system activity takes place.
Not only do they help your body get what it needs, but probiotics also help your body get rid of what it doesn’t need, such as metabolic waste materials that are a normal byproduct of metabolism.
I recently started taking NOW vitamins and the jury is in….I feel SO much better! Okay, I’m not going to lie, it’s only been about a month since I started taking the vitamins, but I can already fee the difference! Why didn’t my doctors simply put me on a good probiotic a long time ago? I feel like I wasted a lot of time trying to figure my body out, trying new medicications from Gas X to cleanses and GERD pills. I will be a little more wise and do a little more research myself the next time I’m having issues. Don’t get me wrong, my doctors are great and they did rule a lot of things out, however I want to get my point across that vitamins can really make a world of difference in your body.
I am currently taking NOW Women’s Probiotic 20 Billion. It has been specifically formulated using three clinically tested probiotic strains to support women’s health through every stage of life. This product features L. rhamnosus HN001 and L. acidophilus La-14 which have been shown to colonize the vaginal tract and help to maintain healthy vaginal pH when taken orally.* HN019 supports GI regularity and reduces occasional gas and bloating (this was so important to me!) These specialized strains also support healthy, balanced immune system function in women of all ages.
I should mention that NOW is one of the very few supplement companies that is using technology to genetically verify their probiotics. They are using DNA-fingerprinting technology to guarantee the identity, potency, and purity of the bacterial strains used in the probiotic products, as well as help identify potential bacterial contaminants prior to production. The Women’s Probiotic has 20 billion Colony-Forming Units (CFU) and has a guaranteed potency. NOW Women’s Probiotic 20 Billion is vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free. The suggested retail price is $33.99.

Mine would be my teeth. I’ve always had beautiful teeth growing up. I took that for granted by not getting check-ups and eating too many sweets.
