It’s not something that I want to admit, or something that I normally talk about, however it is important that I do, to get the word out to others. I have gingivitis, but I’m working on getting it under control. Yes, that’s right, I see pink in the sink when I brush. I’m horrible about flossing (with 5 boys and a busy schedule it’s just not on the top of my list of things that must be done), however I plan to make my teeth habits a little more of a priority now that I know what is going on.
If you experience pink in the sink when you spit out your toothpaste, or blood on your dental floss then you may have gingivitis too. People mistakenly think it is a sign that they are brushing hard or flossing efficiently, but bleeding gums is actually a symptom of gingivitis, and it’s a warning sign that your gums need serious attention, don’t ignore it.
Dentists estimate that 80% of us develop gum disease in our lifetimes, ranging from mild gingivitis to severe periodontitis. If left untreated, however, gum disease may progress to other oral health issues, including tooth loss (it’s the #1 reason for adult tooth loss!).
Other studies and experts, including Dr.Oz, have also linked gum disease to heart disease, stroke, breast cancer and respiratory diseases, such as COPD. (Now that’s serious, and reason enough for me to take action).
While it can happen to anyone, the following raise the risk for developing gingivitis:
- Poor dental hygiene
- Pregnancy/puberty/menopause (hormonal changes increase the sensitivity of the gums)
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Genetics/family history (30% of general population susceptible to gum disease)
- Smoking
- Stress
- Medications
- General illness
The Natural Dentist Healthy Gums Anti-Gingivitis Rinse should be added to your oral care regimen.
We had the chance to review this product. I must say that when it first arrived I had been battling a horrible canker sore in my mouth. I had tried everything to get rid of this canker sore, but nothing was working. After only 2 days of using The Natural Dentist my canker sore was GONE! I have been using it ever since and feel like my gums are improving. I am still seeing a bit of blood, however I know that it isn’t going to correct itself over night. I will continue to use this product, not only because it tastes good, but because it’s natural too!

Oh goodness, that is too funny about her waikng you! Congrats on the good check-ups. My older kids always had good check-ups and I took it for granted that Miss V would also. Her teeth are horrid. She just got her two-year molars at age 3, but is missing three teeth that just kind of disintegrated while we were at Disneyland. She has already had more cavities than I have had in my entire life!
