Purchasing a new home is a very exciting time, but moving house is also recognized as being one of the most stressful tasks that anyone goes through. When finding the perfect property at one of the land auctions it is natural to want the process to go smoothly and when moving with children in tow there is so much more to consider. Children cannot only get in the way; they can also find the process of leaving their home to go to a new one very stressful too.
Before the move It is a good idea to tell children that they are moving home as soon as it is confirmed. This gives them the same amount of time as other members of the family to get used to the idea. They will undoubtedly worry about it, but it also gives the family time to sit and discuss what is great about the move. They may be moving closer to school, maybe starting a new school and could be closer to friends. If the new house has a larger garden, this is a positive aspect of the move to focus on and will give them something to look forward to.
It is important to not show the children any anxiety. Children are very perceptive and will pick up on any stress in the home. Answer any questions they have with a positive tone; if possible, take them and show them where they are going to be living; let them pick out which bedrooms they would like and talk about how they can be decorated.
The children should also be a part of the packing process. Encourage them to help with packing their toys and other items. Favorite toys and other possessions should always be taken along, but the packing process is a good opportunity for them to get rid of toys that they no longer play with or which are broken.
During the move
It may be possible to have someone else take care of the children on moving day, in which case the day itself can be much easier. If this is not possible, then the children need to be involved a process that should include giving them specific tasks to do. They can help to make sure that nothing has been left behind at the old home.
On arrival at the new home children can play in their rooms once their furniture has been put in there, which will help to keep them occupied. Planning a special first night at the new home will help to keep the move exciting for them, so organize a nice meal and watch a DVD rather than spending too much time unpacking on the first day.
After the move Some children may find it difficult to settle in a new home, so it is a good idea to keep as much of their old routine as possible. Stick to the same bedtimes and mealtimes and make sure their things are unpacked and arranged as quickly as possible. It may take a few days for them to settle, but in time they will.

I hate moving so much! We just moved and I’m kinda glad we did-I’m 6 months pregnant and didn’t have to help with any heavy stuff LOL!

Thanks for sharing! I’m moving soon with two young kids and the first thing I did was look into a couple Orlando Florida moving companies. I am going to avoid doing this move by myself at all costs. Some people may think I’m crazy for spending so much money on movers but it is worth it to me. Great tips!
