Fall is my favorite time of the year. I love that life sort of just slows down. We can cuddle up on the couch and watch movies together on the weekends. Our attire changes over to comfy clothing, cute boots and scarves (I admit that I have more scarves than I really have room for!) I love that we can throw comfort foods into the crockpot, enjoy hot cocoa and coffee and just relax. With that being said, this year things are going to be a little different. Let me explain.
We are in the process of selling our home and buying a new home. This will be a challenge as we are homeschooling our 5 boys and we will need to go in and paint and lay new carpet before we can move into the new home. So, we are not exactly relaxing. Instead we are packing, cleaning, and preparing to get busy at the new house. I have had a chance to decorate our current home for fall. I convinced my husband that it would help us sell the house. He won’t admit it, but we ended up with several offers shortly after the fall decorations came out! I call that a WIN!
So, while my basic necessities may be packed into boxes and totes, my house does look pretty fall-like, and I’m loving that! I don’t want to pack it up!
I also wanted to mention a great way that I have been getting my boys to stay focused this school year. I feel like this time of the year it’s hard because it’s still nice enough for them to be outside enjoying the weather, so it’s hard to stay focused and want to sit still. So, how do we keep our boys focused?
We have a treasure chest! Ok, that might sound a little cheesy, and I had heard many people say that you should not bribe your children, however I feel like this is more of a reward system. After completing assignments they can earn rewards from the treasure chest. It has worked out so well that my 6 year old (who used to stand on his head and write with his feet on his desk) is now pushing himself to get extra work done each day. As a matter of fact, he’s almost finished with his first 9 weeks and they just started school after Labor Day! I’m going to have to come up with extra work for this boy!
We got the cute treasure chest full of prizes from Oriental Trading Company. I also got my fun fall decorations (don’t you love the lantern set shown in the photo above?) I mean, it DID help sell my house! hehe!
