When we bought our new home a few months ago we knew there were some things that were going to need to be done, especially since the previous owners had left the house in rough condition. One of the things we didn’t think about right away was our furnace filter. We didn’t have a furnace in our previous house (it was very old and heated with gas fireplaces and electric baseboard heat) so this was something new to us. We had our furnace inspected and sure enough, we were in need of a new filter. I was pretty excited when I found out that we were going to receive a free supply of Filtrete Filters by 3M.
When researching furnace filters I learned a lot, and I was quite surprised at just how easy it is to change the furnace filter—I did it myself!
Our odor reduction furnace filters are definitely going to come in handy, especially since we have children with allergies! I had no idea, but I learned that indoor levels of pollutants may be two to five times higher than outdoor levels and indoor air quality ranks as one of the top five environmental risks to public health. I never would have thought that a furnace filter could help clean the air in our home by reducing allergens, odors and chemical fumes that travel through the air and contribute to the poor indoor air quality, thus maintaining proper air flow.
How it works
3M carbon web technology combines activated carbon with electrostatically charged fibers. It is made of many time pores and as air passes through the filter odors and gases become trapped in those pores. This helps to reduce the odors in your home that are caused by pets, smoke, cooking, mildew and cleaning chemicals.
The electrstatically charged fibers attract and capture microscopic allergens such as pet dander, dust mite debris, pollen and smoke.
