I try to post every day, however I have had a hard time trying to fit blogging time into my schedule lately. As if I wasn’t already busy enough with school just starting and trying to get into a routine and so forth, I have had other things pop up.
As you all know, or at least those of you that have been reading daily, probably know…my husband had a vasectomy done two weeks ago. We made the decision that we were done having children and he went in for the quick and easy procedure. Well, that’s sort of what we thought it was going to be. Maybe I shouldn’t even be telling my story because I’m sure it is going to scare a lot of people out of having the procedure done. Don’t get me wrong, what happened to my husband is very rare and doesn’t happen all of the time.
So, he went in for the vasectomy and the first couple of days afterward he was pretty swollen, but not real sore. After about the 5th day (when most people are starting to get back to normal) he started to feel worse. He had a lot of pain and as the days went by it only got worse. Unfortunately he left shortly after the surgery for a week long business trip, so he wasn’t here for me to force him to go to the ER. As soon as he came home from his business trip I took him to the ER. I feared that he had a major infection and that he was septic or something along those lines. Thank God he was not! The doctor explained that my husband had a hematoma (like a big blood clot) “down there”. We were a little freaked to say the least when we first heard this, however he reassured us that this would go away on it’s own and would be more of a nuisance than anything. Nuisance is right! What we weren’t prepared for is that it can take MONTHS (yes, MONTHS) to heal. So, my husband is on pain killers and walking very funny, however he is going to be ok. Hopefully it won’t be too much longer and he can be somewhat normal again. I feel so bad for him!
On top of that, my 8 year old son came running into the house last Saturday. He was being silly and running goofy-like. I told him to stop being silly and come inside before he tripped himself. He came inside and sat down and about 10 minutes later he came to me crying. When I looked down at his leg it had a huge knot/swelling on it.
He had no idea how this had happened, but he was in a lot of pain. His leg has been swelling all the way around the knee and down his shin since last Saturday. I took him to Urgent Care on Sunday and they told me that they have no idea what is wrong and that I should take him to my family doctor on Monday. I was shocked that they would let me leave without doing x-rays or anything and would just tell me that they didn’t know what was wrong. I also hate that I have to pay them for that! So, I took him to the doctor on Monday. Our family doctor did not do any x-rays either and set us up to see an Orthopedic doctor. When I got the call telling me that our son’s appointment at the specialist was scheduled I was so happy, that is until they told me it was 3 weeks away! So, I spent the last couple of days calling doctors offices leaving messages and trying to get my son into someone sooner. Today I finally got his appointment scheduled with a Pediatric Orthopedic doctor about an hour and a half away for next Thursday. Since my son is still in a lot of pain and is holding fluid in his leg I decided I would try a pediatric doc in the area that I have heard is good while we wait to see the orthopedic doc. I hate to have him wait in pain if there is something I can do to help him. The new pediatric doc is getting him in tomorrow already!
But, on a brighter note…We had a Birthday yesterday! Our 3rd born turned 6 yesterday. We took him out to eat, had cake and ice cream, and had an all around great day!
Shew…I’m tired!
