Have you ever heard of RSV? If you have children then it is likely that you have heard of it, know someone that has been affected by it, or you yourself have been affected by this disease. Did you know that RSV is a seasonal illness, like the flu? Typically people are affected by RSV from Fall into Spring.
It is ideal to keep your children indoors during cold and flu season so that they are away from germs and other sick people, however that isn’t always possible, and sometimes we must leave the house. I would like to share some tips with you to help you keep your children healthy and germ free in preschool and/or daycare environments.
1.) Hand Washing–Be sure that your child knows the proper way to wash their hands, and that they are doing it often. Soap and water are very important at keeping germs at bay.
2.) Bundle–Even if you are only going to be outdoors from the car to the building, you should still be prepared for the frigid temperatures. Dress children appropriately for the weather—hats, gloves, coats, socks (believe it or not some people forget to put socks on their children).
3.) Keeping things away from mouths—Teach your children that their hands and other objects need to stay out of and away from the mouth.
4.) Wash–Be sure to wash the clothing, toys, or anything else that is coming home from the daycare/preschool as often as possible. If someone in the building happens to get sick, you don’t want to bring those germs home with you. (Be sure to wash bedding and toys at home often as well).
We have had family members affected by RSV. I can tell you personally that it is not something you want to take lightly. As parents we need to be informed and prepared for illnesses before they hit. Knowing what you can do to prevent these illnesses and how to handle them if they do hit is very important.
If your baby is showing signs of RSV be sure to consult your doctor right away. For more information visit RSVProtection.com.

I have never heard of this disease. My son from the time he was about 1 year old would have this cough every single January. The Dr’s never found anything wrong with him. It almost sounded like he had Croup. He is going to be 34 this April and he still gets it every year in January. Maybe the Dr’s weren’t aware of this disease and this is what he has. Thanks for sharing.
