When I retire….

When I retire I plan to fly south, sit poolside sipping on drinks with little tiny umbrellas in the corner. I plan to dine in the finest restaurants, have a personal trainer, a housekeeper, and maybe even a personal assistant. I will drive a Mercedes Benz or something very nice and expensive. I will only shop in the coolest, most expensive uptown boutiques. I will own more pairs of shoes and purses than I can count, and I will have a closet big enough to hold them all, and then some. My private jet will take me to my many houses across the country, and my guest houses will be open for my friends and family to come visit my many locations.

Oh wait, I believe this was once a dream of mine. Is it not a dream we all have? Don’t we all wish we could live the life of the rich and famous? I think at some point or another we all do, however I’m happy to say that I’m really quite content in my very OLD brick home that has been around longer than my Great Great Grandmother. I can also say that while we may have to work really hard for what we have, we appreciate what we do have. We are happy with our accomplishments and while it would be nice to hop into our private jet and fly south for a week or two, I am content with getting into my mini van and driving across town to the pool.

There are even sites online where you can plan your retirement. If you are like me, you like to be prepared for things, however planning retirement is one thing that I think is hard for us all. Where do we begin? How can we think that far ahead?

I think many of us often think that we would like to walk in someone else’s shoes, however even though one may appear to be happy and have all of the money or expensive things they could ever want, it doesn’t mean they are happy. Live your life to the fullest. Slow down and enjoy life. Listen to your children when they talk. Smile and laugh as much as possible…laughter goes a long way. Enjoy ever minute of it. One day you can enjoy retirement and all of the fine things, or maybe you can just dream about those fine things, but as long as you have someone who loves you and are appreciative for what you already have then life is much more enjoyable.

What is one of your dreams?
