Last year I was approached (via email) by a company that made cards. They had this great idea that I could do a promotion for them for Valentine’s Day and in exchange for the promotion I would receive free Valentine’s cards for my children. I was all over this idea because Valentine’s cards can be expensive—especially when you have as many children as I do (except the oldest does not participate).
The idea was great…in my head, however it didn’t turn out quite as well as I had planned.
I had cards made for 3 of our boys. They had their picture on them and they were going to hand them out to all of their friends. The idea was brilliant (again, in my head) and they were going to have the most awesome cards! That is until my 10 year old got a glimpse of the cards. He did NOT want to take a card with his picture on it and hand it out to his classmates. I just could not understand what the problem was. I think he’s adorable and I didn’t know why he wouldn’t want to hand the picture out. I mean, they hand their school pictures out in class, right?
Well, had I had the cards made without the photos there would have been no problem, so I’m not saying you shouldn’t buy custom made cards (and besides, the younger boys had no problem with their photo being on the cards), however, my older son was not impressed.
The other day I saw Valentine’s cards were already out in the stores. This prompted a conversation with my boys about the kind of cards they would hand out this year. I look at my 10 year old (and being the nice, loving Mommy) say to him, “Ohhhh, I bet I can do a review of a card with your photo on it again this year!” He immediately looks at me and says…”MOM! PLEASE don’t EVER make me hand out a card with my pic on it again!

Thanks Shaunte! We bought really cheap cards this year and treats to go with them! I’m keeping this in mind for next year though! 🙂

LOL! At what age can I expect this, “mom you’re embarrassing me” sentiment?

Well…for my boys it was the 3rd grade! It’s all over from there! ha ha!
