If you’ve been reading my site for long, then you might remember me talking about owning an online store. I owned a boutique for 3 years. While the store was doing pretty well, I did decide to close it to turn my attention upon other things, such as homeschooling and real estate—and my blogs.
With that being said, I often have people reach out to me asking about the ins and outs of owning a store and getting customers. I’d like to take a bit of time to explain some things today.
There are several things that are very important when running your own business that relies on customers purchasing products from you.
1.) Make a Good First Impression. You can do this with customer on boarding if you’d like. What is customer on boarding? Customer on boarding is when you guide your new customers through your product so that they can learn more about how it works and its value to their goals.
Customer on boarding is important because you want to make a good first impression right from the start. You want to win the hearts and minds of the users before they even become your customers. You can read more about Customer On boarding.
2.) Satisfying the customers. Some might call this Customer Success. This is basically when your customers get exactly what they want when working with you. They find exactly what they were looking for and don’t need to look elsewhere. You can read more about Customer Success.
3.) Carrying enough products. It’s sometimes hard to come up with the funds to carry a lot of products in the beginning, however you don’t want your customers to stay away simply because they can’t find what they are looking for. Make sure you have the products and are able to quickly ship in order to keep customers happy.
4.) Customer Service. This goes hand in hand with #2, but I felt it was worth mentioning on its own. You want to make sure that when a customer has a problem they can reach you. They need to be able to reach someone with problems, complaints or any other issue rather quickly and they should get a reply rather quickly, even if just to say that it is being looked into and you will get back with them shortly.
5.) Hire help. This is a personal thing, however I feel like if you really want to take your business to the next level without overwhelming and overworking yourself then you might consider hiring someone to do things like social media, shipping and receiving and any other tasks that can easily be taken off of your hands.
6.) Use your time wisely. This goes hand in hand with #5. Make sure that you aren’t wasting time on things that could be quickly and easily done by someone else. Spend your time doing what is going to help your business grow and make your business successful.
Most importantly, you want to make sure that what you are doing is making you happy and making your customers happy. Giving the best user adoption is important at running a successful business.
Good Luck!
Check out this post about Time Management and this post about the platform I used when I had my store. I did sell my store, so the link is still clickable and I still love to purchase items from the new owner.
